When was the last time you learnt from another company?
May 24th, 2021.
Dear Leaders,Â
Something I have noticed over my career is many businesses just do not change their operating models or operating cadence.Â
Why? This often is down to the lack of change in the leadership but also down to lack of experience or lack of looking for a better way of doing it.Â
Podcasts, YouTube videos and newsletters are often filled full of snippets of how other companies operate, how they run different models and approaches.Â
This is an opportunity to take note and learn from them or reach out to them for a coffee (virtual or in person).Â
FWIW I have a 50% hit rate.
Yes, I might be different:Â
At every opportunity, I speak to as many industry colleagues as possible and find out what they do, why they do it and what framework they would take on to their next role. Simple but many of these are foundations to the services I offer or help firms approach their problems in a different way.Â
Even today, I found a new framework that will help numerous clients improve the flow of communication and improve decision making.Â
I am still gobsmacked by the lack of a desire to make positive change, to improve the internal status quo, a lack of wanting to improve internal processes and a desire to apply something new, especially when running workshops.Â
We have always done it this way should never be an excuse.Â
Learning from other companies and other smart professionals is something that I think smart managers and leaders should add into their weekly habits, it is something that shows a thirst for learning, a thirst for development and a coach always wants to evolve and help those around them.Â
Question to answer this week:Â
When was the last time you heard of a process another company uses and applied it to your business?
Have a great week and let me know what you learn and apply from other businesses.
Thanks,
Danny Denhard
